Yesterday I had to work. I parked my car and was walking on the sidewalk to the front of the building when I saw one of my coworkers stop and peer at something on the sidewalk. Of course, I had to look too, so I went over there to see what was going on.
There was a teeny-tiny hummingbird sitting on the sidewalk. Literally. Just sitting there. He was breathing heavily and looked a bit dazed. My coworker and I decided that we would move the bird off of the sidewalk because we didn't want him to get smushed by either someone not looking or someone mean, so my coworker leaned over and put his hand out and picked up the little bird. The little tiny hummingbird just sat there in his hand, his little tongue poking in and out of his beak, his tiny little curled claws still and quiet.
It was so amazing!
We figured that the bird had accidently flown into a big window and stunned himself, so we put him on a little branch of a tree. The bird just sort of fell out, his wings spreading but not flying, leaving him suspended between the feathery branches, hanging by his wings. Obviously this wasn't going to work so we took him back out and moved him to a different branch. The bird really did not want to get off my coworker's hand, he tried to stay there but we sat him gently on a thick branch, low to the ground, in the shade. I felt bad about leaving him and while I was inside I kept looking to see if he was still in the tree. I could see the tree, but not the bird.
3-1/2 hours later (I got to leave a little early), I went back out and immediately went to the tree to see if the little bird was still there. He wasn't there. I looked all around on the ground to make sure he hadn't fallen out and was down there, but no bird.
Suddenly, the bird came swooping down from above and landed on a little branch right in front of my face, right at eye-level. He started singing and chirping - just like he was telling me he was ok and was saying thank you to me. He literally sat in the tree in front of me for about one minute (which is a very long time for a little bird like that) then he flew up, turned around and flew away.
It made my whole entire day.

I bought Black Cadillac by Roseanne Cash yesterday and I really love it. It's a great cd that deals with death and loss and sadness, yet doesn't sink down into being depressing. I'm really impressed with all the songs on it and I highly recommend it, go and get it, you won't be sorry!
Another cd that I recently got is X&Y by Coldplay. It's actually the first Coldplay cd I've ever had (thanks, Cari!). I've always kind of shied away from them, especially after Chris Martin went off about how they were the next U2, come on. U2 is my favorite band (since they first came out in about 1981) and that just sort of automatically set me off. Also, I think Mr. Chris kind of overplays his keyboards...I saw a video of him one time and it looked like he was playing Rachmaninoff but as a piano player I can tell you, it wasn't even that complicated. So I kind of laugh at that.
However, the cd is great. I watched them on Austin City Limits and my husband and I did have a bit of a giggle at some of the showmanship but hell, they're entertainers so I guess that's what they do. I'd still rather listen to music than SEE music, but I really really like the X&Y cd. I know I'm about 30 years behind the rest of the Earth on this one but I came around, haha.
*****
My son Four and I made a cake today. It's confetti and it's going to have cherry frosting with sprinkles. We just felt like it and I'm even going to throw candles on it before we cut it and, of course, serve it with ice cream. We felt we needed a little party and darn it, we're going to have one!
Have a great weekend!

Did you know a four year old can projectile vomit one foot of airspace per year of age?
Mine can.
So, I'll be having my brother in law over soon to clean the carpets on two opposite sides of the house. And, my poor boy is forced to carry a large plastic mixing bowl around in case he suddenly feels the urge to throw up again, I'm running out of towels.
Other than that, things are great!
*****
In other news, my dad sent me a cd he found that is some 60's stuff, kind of conceptual. It is good - it's a cross between the Moody Blues, David Bowie and maybe a little Spinal Tap thrown in. I'm not sure what it is yet, I'm re-listening to try to figure it out. And I'm not Googling the title either, I'm doing it on my own.
So that's my week so far.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly.
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see.
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free.
Blackbird fly, blackbird fly
Into the light of a dark black night.
Blackbird fly, blackbird fly

Take these broken wings and learn to fly.

Had a great Christmas, had a great New Year.
Trying to figure out a few things right now, there are a few things I've been wanting to do and I guess the time is now to just do them, so I've not been around much. Probably won't be around much for a little while, I've got to clean house and get into the groove.
Not the Madonna groove, my own. haha
Anyway, I figured two, three weeks was long enough to go without one post but it might be two, three more weeks.
Adios!
