"You may tell a tale that takes up residence in someone's soul, becomes their blood and self and purpose. That tale will move them and drive them and who knows what they might do because of it, because of your words. That is your role, your gift." - Erin Morgenstern, The Night Circus
This book is truly beautifully written. The story of a game, of magic - of two talents reaching across time and space to win a competition that neither asked for and neither truly understands - it's probably one of my favorite books, ever. Every description, every person, every wondrous tent in the cirucs is something to discover. I simultaneously wanted to race to the end to find out what happened and also wanted to take each page leisurely and as slowly as possible so as to not finish.
In the end of course, I couldn't help myself, I had to finish it. It's lovely. I am absolutely in love with this story.
